MTApex Product Packaging System

MTApex™ launched earlier this year, it is the latest in Ultradent’s line of bioceramic sealer products.
One of the most exciting opportunities of this project was to be able to utilize and leverage research insights from human centered design practices with stakeholders. Through our initial user research and interviews with practicing dentists, I discovered key insights and developed a new packaging system opportunity.

Packaging System
For clinicians who would want to have faster access to the components, the top lid was designed to be detachable. As the syringes are held in place from the bottom, there is little risk of dust contamination.

Design Process
I identified that a major need of the design was to develop a more effective way to store the syringes. By developing a thermoform tray that could hold the 15 individual syringes vertically rather than bagged, clinicians and their staff had incentive to leave the syringes with the other components and the branded carton.
Early Carton and Thermoform Tray Prototype
I designed and developed other intuitive features into the one piece carton die line that enhanced function and promote product and company branding. The carton has a top lid that swings open so products can be accessed but protected, the carton sweeps down to allow unobstructed access to the kit components and syringes.
This project was an amazing opportunity in framing insights, building organizational understanding, and developing new packaging concepts from ideas to product launch.
